Event Summary

With the rapid economic growth in the ASEAN region, big cities in ASEAN have been facing serious problems such as traffic jams and environmental pollution. These cities’ high density and increasing population hinder their sound development to improve their everyday living environments.
Under these circumstances, the first route of an urban railway in Hanoi has been developed this year. Mass rapid transit has started in Jakarta, and Mega Manila Subway Project has started in Manila this year. Urban transport in ASEAN big cities has been dramatically changing.

Considering the above situation, Mr. Kozo Fujita, Vice-Minister, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT-Japan) gave a greeting to the guest, and high ranking officials from ASEAN member states' transport authorities had presentations and discussed the current situation and the policies for future transport focusing on urban railways of ASEAN big cities at this seminar.
