Outline of the seminar:

Offshore oil and gas development have increasingly taken place in deeper water in recent years as a consequence of advance in the relevant technology. The seminar was organized aimed at providing the offshore industry, having industrial clusters and technological potentials, with opportunities to learn from, and exchange views with, guest speakers with many years of experience in the so-called offshore upstream market.  The seminar saw a variety of presentations addressing pressing issues that include project management & delivery, state-of-the-art technologies, outlook in the global market and the challenges.

Following an introductory presentation by Mr. Yukio Kato, Secretary-General, The Secretariat of the Headquarters for Ocean Policy, Cabinet Secretariat, Government of Japan, who presented briefly overall ocean policy of Japan, Professor Iwama provided his detailed analysis on the current status and prospects on oil and gas prices based upon the latest pertinent statistics.

Mr. Hamza Ahmad of Petronas, Project Director for FLNG project which aims to be the world first operational FLNG, presented key features of the project, with focuses on technical challenges involved and the company’s strategies.  Following his presentation, Mr. Osvaldo Kawakami, General Manager for Exploration and Production Santos Basin Operation Unit, outlined, placing emphasis on the Santos basin, current status and strategy for oil and natural gas production at deep sea in Brazil, production activities integrating safe and reliable state-of-the-art technologies as well as mid-long term production target output.

Representing Aker Solutions, an engineering company in Norway with particular expertise in sub-sea systems, Dr. Alf Engseth, Senior Project Manager for Front End Studies, outlined, in his presentation, main features of respective drilling systems it engineered, cutting-edge sub-sea technologies and design & engineering tools.
Last presenter was Mr. Yuichiro Ichikawa, President and Representative Director, Japan Drilling CO., LTD.  He addressed a range of issues pertinent to drilling activities; current global market for oil drilling, current and prospects on oil & gas prices, anticipated supply and demand for drilling rigs on the basis of  forecasted future offshore oil production, and finally addressed envisaged shortage of oil drilling crew.

All of the aforementioned presentations were immensely informative and useful for participants.

The seminar was closed by Mr. Yasushi Yamawaki, Director and Chair of Steering Committee, Research Institute of Ocean Engineering, having attracted huge audience and subject to media coverage, ended in a great success.
