ITPS launched a 3-year international joint study project named “A Study of Long-Term Transport Action Plan for ASEAN (LPA)” in 2011. The aims of the study project are to promote back casting methods; build a guideline of long-term transport policies with a climate change point of view; and propose concrete transport policies for ASEAN.

As requested by the Ministry of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia and the Indonesia Transportation Society, a 2-day session was held to help government administrators become familiar with the backcasting approach, developed under our LPA Study.

On the first day, the opening Remarks were given by Dr. Aritenang, who is Assistant for Environment to the Minister of Transportation. Following his remarks, lectures were held on the present situation of Indonesia transportation as well as the theory of the backcasting approach.

On the second day, participants put the backcasting tool into practice and selected policies to reduce CO2 emissions in the transportation sector in Indonesia. The grounds for policies they selected as well as their possibilities of being realized were actively discussed.
