Indian Railways "Vision 2020", which was released as the next decade's railway vision, includes development of six high speed rail corridors. Preliminary study of the corridors has already started. "The High Speed Rail Seminar in India" was held in order to contribute towards developing the HSR project and strengthen the relationship between India and Japan through Japan's 47 years of experience with HSR.

Minister Trivedi and CII Vice Chairman Aggarwal noted that the development of a HSR network is necessary for the growth of India's economy and to reduce the environmental load, such as greenhouse gas. They also expressed admiration for the merits of the Japanese HSR 'Shinkansen' system, especially its safety and punctuality reputation and expressed hope for deepening the partnership between India and Japan through HSR.

MLIT and three Japanese private enterprises presented the technology, safety, and operational experience of the Japanese HSR 'Shinkansen' system, They also explained the economic benefits of HSR. ITPS and an Indian research institute made presentations showing the necessity of introducing HSR in India while also outlining the future vision for a HSR network in India. The seminar explored the future vision for an Indian HSR project through these presentations and discussions.
